Posted on Friday, April, 18, 2008, 5:04PM  I have been a convert to Lean Manufacturing (Toyota Production System) for the
past 20 years – since my days as a Plant / General Manger of an automotive parts
manufacturing company within the Authorized Ford Remanufacturing Program. Yet
today as a Lean Manufacturing Consultant with over 12 years experience implementing
lean in a wide range of companies from job shop to discrete manufacturing to
process flow operations I am still amazed at the dramatic improvements that can be
realized. Whatever the business sector: automotive, heavy industrial, aviation, beverage
or garment industries the results of implementing lean have been the same:
· Increased productivity· Increased quality· Increased gross margin
· Reduced inventories· Reduced space requirements· Reduced lead times
So why is it that I am continually running into companies that are either hesitant or
downright negative towards implementing lean? I have spent the last year trying to
