Hoping to make product lifecycle management (PLM) more appealing to small- and mid-size manufacturing firms, PTC (Needham, MA) has aligned with IBM to use the giant's On Demand service center to offer hosted versions of its PLM suite. The hosted Windchill offerings should help manufacturers more easily deploy and manage PLM without any of the initial start-up costs and without the obstacles associated with building out a complex infrastructure to run the software, as well as the highly technical resources to administer it. The service will be offered on a per-user, subscription basis starting as low as $100 per month. The service will be sold by all resellers of PTC solutions.
