In a move that marks the further consolidation of the master data management (MDM) software market, Software AG said it has acquired a small MDM provider, Data Foundations Inc.
Software AG will use the acquisition to add MDM capabilities to its business-to-business and enterprise integration products, as well as its business process management tools, said Susan Ganeshan, Software AG’s senior vice president for product management, in an interview with Managing Automation.
Software AG did not reveal financial details of the acquisition. Privately owned Data Foundations has 20 customers, including large manufacturers such as Cargill, GE, Novartis, and PepsiCo. Cargill and GE are customers of both Software AG and Data Foundations, Ganeshan said.
Such manufacturing customers are increasingly in need of MDM software to bring order, consistency, and quality to enterprise data, particularly as systems proliferate and business processes become more complex, she said.
