Enterprise applications provider SAP said today that a new version of its Business ByDesign software-as-a-service ERP product for mid-market companies, unveiled in May at its Sapphire user conference, is now generally available in select countries. In addition, SAP introduced what it called Business ByDesign “starter” packages for enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, and professional services.

The new release of Business ByDesign, designated feature pack 2.5, includes in-memory analytics, multi-tenancy, support for the iPhone, and a new user interface based on Microsoft Silverlight technology. The new version also has been engineered, SAP said, to allow customers and partners to develop extensions to the product.

The feature pack is now available in China, France, Germany, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

In May, SAP said that 2.5 would represent a turning point for Business ByDesign, which was originally introduced in September 2007 but then underwent a series of changes.
