NASHVILLE — Rockwell Automation this week unveiled a clearer picture of its process automation strategy and a new name for a suite of technology the company calls an alternative to traditional distributed control systems (DCS), offering integrated plant-wide control that includes safety, advanced process control, and manufacturing intelligence.
The new PlantPAx process automation system, showcased here during Rockwell’s Process Solutions User Group (PSUG), held in conjunction with its annual Automation Fair, is built on key technologies acquired in the past two years, as well some new strategic partnerships.
Under the PlantPAx umbrella, manufacturing intelligence from Incuity, advanced process control from Pavilion Technologies, safety systems from ICS Triplex, and engineering expertise from ProsCon — all companies Rockwell has acquired in the past two years — will be tightly integrated with Rockwell’s Logix control platform and its FactoryTalk production management suite.
