RFID middleware provider GlobeRanger revealed a new partnership today that will enable the company to offer hardware infrastructure installation services in addition to its iMotion Edgeware software platform. The services are based on a partnership with global IT infrastructure services provider Winston Joseph, LLC.
Under the banner GlobeRanger Infrastructure Services (GIS), the company will offer physical RFID infrastructure deployment services to complement its software, filling what GlobeRanger sees as a missing piece in typical RFID deployments for its customer base, made up largely of retail, government, and healthcare/pharmaceutical companies.
"As we got into customer engagements, we realized there was a huge void in the market for companies to physically set up RFID hardware infrastructure on-site, do site surveys, monitor readers — those kinds of things," said Baldev Nair, vice president of marketing at GlobeRanger, in an interview with Managing Automation. He said that though many companies offer RFID software, readers, tags, and other equipment, fewer provide hardware infrastructure services.
The partnership came about, in part, because Winston Joseph, which focuses mainly on installing technologies such as wireless local area networks and point-of-service terminals for large, geographically dispersed retail and financial chains, was looking to expand beyond its traditional IT installation services. The company identified RFID as an up-and-coming technology area that requires on-site installations by qualified experts.
