Germany-based SAP America's user conference and show, SAPphire '97, brought out more than 150 partners and affiliates with announcements of their own(Managing Automation, October 1997, page 10). Here are a few: o Information Builders Inc. (New York, NY) and IDS Scheer (Chadds Ford, PA) announced a joint marketing and referral program for IDS Scheer's ARIS toolkit and Information Builders' SNAPpack data migrator. ARIS is an advanced process-modeling tool designed to manage and optimize business-reengineering and enterprise-planning implementations. SNAPpack is a set of software, services, and training that helps companies plan and execute R/3 data transfers. o Digital Equipment Corp. (Maynard, MA) announced 18 preconfigured SAP Business Servers and an R/3 rapid-implementation service with Ernst & Young. Digital also demonstrated Microsoft Cluster Server (formerly known as Wolfpack) for Digital Windows NT systems on R/3. "Digital's share of SAP's worldwide business has increased nearly 20% in the past year and our R/3 Windows NT business has quadrupled," said Toni Steiner, Digital's global SAP business and alliance manager. o Logility Inc. (Atlanta, GA), the American Software unit for warehouse management and logistics, announced that SAP has certified the application-programming interfaces (APIs) for demand planning and replenishment in its Logility Planning Solutions. Manufacturing and transportation certification is still underway. SAP and Logility have between 20 and 30 mutual customers employing mostly custom interfaces between the two, said Lisa Henriott, general manager of Logility. o Teklogix Inc. (Richmond, B.C., Canada) announced Wireless Warehouse, the most complete plug-and-play warehouse-management system available for R/3 on Windows NT. Embedded messaging guarantees that bar-code data is entered into R/3. According to Teklogix president Duncan Smith, "SAP built R/3 without any concept of bar codes." Teklogix Wireless Warehouse translates logic functionality into R/3. It interprets the data and acts the way R/3 wants it to. o New Dimension Software (Irvine, CA) announced that Control-M Option for R/3 is now on Windows NT. The application allows users to automate the scheduling and management of ABAP/4 programs and R/3 jobs. Operations personnel can easily manage and automate the setup, scheduling, and execution of processes running in a multiplatform environment.
