Just a day after revealing a strong rise in third-quarter sales, product lifecycle management (PLM) stalwart PTC announced that it has restructured its product portfolio to bring a more consistent look to its stable of CAD and PLM products.
At a launch event in Boston today, PTC took the wraps off its Project Lightning concept, revealing its new Creo software portfolio. The product line dubbed Creo, a Latin word meaning “to create,” was built using elements of the company’s 3D design software Pro/ENGINEER, its CoCreate software for CAD and CAE product data management (PDM), and ProductView, PTC’s visual markup software.
The products have been renamed, respectively, Creo Elements/Pro; Creo Elements/Direct; and Creo Elements/View. The lineup reflects the new direction of the company’s offerings, which PTC president and CEO Jim Heppelmann called “the most powerful innovation in the industry since 1987.”
“The fact that we have a new brand tells you how big this is,” Heppelmann said during a presentation. “These are our best-known brands and we wouldn’t think of changing [their names] if this weren’t big.”
