Eddy Miller, a leading researcher and analyst in product design and data management in the manufacturing industry for more than 25 years, died yesterday after a brief illness. He was 61.
Miller was president of Michigan-based CIMdata, Inc., a consultancy focused on product lifecycle management (PLM) and product data management (PDM) technology, which he joined in 1985.
Miller was “generally recognized as the ‘Father’ of PDM and the foremost worldwide authority on the PLM marketplace and technologies,” CIMdata said in a statement. “He was a PLM spokesperson and visionary who continually looked forward to see and define how PLM solutions could and should evolve to provide increasingly better solutions and benefits for companies and users.”
Miller was a frequent speaker on PLM at industry conferences in the United States and abroad. Last year he spoke at Managing Automation Media’s Manufacturing Executive Forum at the Hannover Fair in Germany. He was frequently quoted in Managing Automation articles as well as numerous other industry publications.
