Wireless connectivity and enterprise mobility provider Verizon today announced that it has expanded its Managed Mobility Solutions portfolio with the addition of an application development platform for businesses that support a large mobile workforce.
The Verizon Mobile Services Enablement Platform (MSEP) leverages technology from Sybase, Inc., an SAP company, to deliver a platform on which organizations can design, develop, and manage wireless applications across a variety of back-end enterprise systems as well as multiple devices and carriers, the company said.
Verizon, which is providing customizable application-development templates that can be tailored to create business-specific applications, will host the software-as-a-service (SaaS) Managed Mobility offering and provide a professional services team to design the specific information that will be displayed on a wireless device.
MSEP’s back-end connector to enterprise systems is based on Sybase’s Unwired Platform, which synchronizes and delivers information between mobile devices—ranging from the iPhone to Android—and ERP and other enterprise applications including SAP, Oracle, Siebel, Remedy, and Salesforce.com.
