Kronos Inc., a developer of human resource, payroll, scheduling, and time and labor software products, is expected to announce this month a major upgrade to its scheduling package. The company has had a scheduling product for some time that has been offered as an embedded function in its Workforce Central product suite. The new product, which is scheduled to be available in October, will be a stand-alone product offered on a license basis. Key functional differences with the new scheduling product, said healthcare industry manager Chris Larco, will be the ability to track skills, jobs, and educational information. Kronos also said, at its third annual New York users meeting last month, that a new version of its Workforce Timekeeper product, designated 4.4, will be out this fall. The new version will include such functions as overtime equalization. Separately, Kronos announced last month that it has acquired the Abra Enterprise customer base in a cash purhcase transaction with Best Software. The acquisition adds 88 organizations to Kronos' existing customer base. Kronos also announced last month that it has acquired the Australian Workforce Solutions business of Simplex International Pty. Ltd. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The acquisition fulfills a commitment Kronos made earlier when it agreed to purchase the North American Workforce Solutions business of Simplex's affiliate, SimplexGrinnel LP, in December 2001.
