Invensys Operations Management today announced a five-year partnership agreement with Cognizant, a provider of consulting, business, and technology outsourcing worldwide, under which Cognizant will take over portions of Invensys’ software development.
As of today, Cognizant will “recruit and make an offer of employment to 400 Invensys Operations Management employees” in India to fulfill its role of supplying “downstream” development and maintenance services, said Vinay Moorthy, vice president, engineering solutions, for Invensys Operations Management, in an interview with Managing Automation.
Cognizant will work on developing manufacturing engineering, enterprise manufacturing intelligence, advanced applications, operations management, measurement and instrumentation, safety and critical control, supervisory control and data acquisition, and distributed control systems, according to the companies’ announcement.
“Cognizant is taking over only a portion of the development cycle. We own the product and we will market the product,” Moorthy said, describing the arrangement as “joint product development.” Invensys will do the initial R&D, requirements, architecture, and high-level design work. Cognizant will then do the execution — further development and detailed testing, as well as maintenance upgrades. Products will come back to Invensys for validation, manufacturing, packaging, and marketing and sales.
