In an attempt to transition itself from a provider of software tools to a best-of-breed planning applications vendor, ILOG Inc. has introduced its first planning applications. Transport PowerOps is a transportation planning application which is targeted to companies with complex transportation environments. According to Chris Hane, ILOG's product manager, Transport PowerOps will be targeted at CPG and retail customers. ILOG plans later this year to add packaged applications for plant operations planning and semiconductor production planning. ILOG's ISV customers include Oracle, SAP, i2 and Manugistics. Hane acknowledged that ILOG will be competing with some of its ISV customers. In many cases, however, customers will buy ILOG's applications and bolt them onto ERP applications from ILOG's current partners.
