Two automation technology vendors began 2009 with key leadership changes, as both Honeywell and Invensys said goodbye to segment presidents.

Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS), one of the few businesses under the Honeywell corporate umbrella that is growing, this week welcomed Norman Gilsdorf as its new president. Gilsdorf, who joined Honeywell in 1977 as part of UOP, a subsidiary positioned within the specialty materials group, was most recently vice president and general manager of Honeywell’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Process Solutions business. He moves into the top role at HPS following the retirement of Jack Bolick.

Bolick spent six of his 10 years at Honeywell in the role of HPS president. Neither Bolick nor Gilsdorf was available today for comment.

Bolick exits an organization that is healthy despite a weak economy. He is credited with moving Honeywell’s DCS business out of a closed proprietary box and into an open, standards-based architecture dubbed Process Knowledge System (PKS). He also oversaw the development of the OneWireless strategy and explored how other segments within Honeywell could help its process customers.
