Abstract:Sparked by new government defense projects, lean initiatives and supplier liability surrounding quality and traceability, the market is expected to grow about 15% a year from $520 million in 2003 to over $1 billion by the end of 2008, according to one analyst firm.

    Three vendors of manufacturing execution systems (MES) for aerospace and defense (A&D) have disclosed significant deals and deployments within the last six months, signaling a rejuvenated market that has been flat for the past four years, according to MES vendors.

    Intercim Inc., iBASEt and HMS Software Inc. have entered into agreements with companies including Bell Helicopter, Sikorsky Aircraft and Lockheed Martin. All three vendors are also looking to seal partnerships with software design vendors to align engineering with the manufacturing of aircraft.
