Deacom Inc., a purveyor of a unified ERP/MES system for process industries, this week announced that it has added a bar code-based lot tracking system to its Integrated Accounting and ERP Software Systems.
The system may be of particular interest to the pharmaceutical industry, due to the strict track and trace regulations imposed on that particular segment, the company said. But the tracking software announced this week will work with any of the industries Deacom serves, including food and beverage, specialty chemical, paint, ink, adhesives, and cosmetics, the company said.
The add-on to Deacom’s Integrated Accounting and ERP offerings provides a way for manufacturers to trace lots and batches for the purpose of quality control and in product recall situations, such as the current FDA investigation of a U.S.-based salmonella outbreak in peanut products originating from Virginia-based Peanut Corp.
The Deacom system assists in controlling a recall by providing an electronic record of each lot of inventory processed by a particular factory. The system, which requires a Symbol bar code scanner, reads the code on an item lot or individual bag, for example. That information is fed to the Deacom ERP/MES system to identify items as they move through inventory, manufacturing, quality control, and shipment.
