PLM software provider Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. today unveiled SolidWorks 2011, the latest upgrade of its flagship 3D CAD software. The 2011 product line is said to speed product design, improve collaboration, and more closely link designs with manufacturing processes.

As in years past, the PLM vendor said it factored customer requests into the ‘hundreds” of design improvements in this release.

“In addition to improving design productivity, we’ve made communication of designs more effective, maximizing intellectual property value and shortening product delivery times,” said Austin O’Malley, executive vice president of research and development for DS SolidWorks, in a statement.

To help manufacturers cut time to market, SolidWorks has added new drawing detailing functions that are said to eliminate the time and effort required in manual dimensioning. The new software lets users align, stagger, or center dimensions with one click and without overlap.
