PLM provider Dassault Systèmes ended its fiscal year on a low note, announcing on Thursday that sales were down 6% year-over-year.

For the year ended Dec. 31, 2009, Dassault reported sales of € 1.25 billion compared with € 1.33 billion in 2008. Net income of € 170 million was down 15% from € 200 million the prior year.

In the fourth quarter, net income was up almost 37% to € 77 million from € 56.3 million in the same period last year on the strength of the company’s operational efficiency push. However, sales in the quarter sank 7% year-over-year to € 339 million.

Nevertheless, with a new version of its design, simulation, and modeling software platform; an acquisition it says will strengthen its global sales force; and some traction in new industry segments, the France-based company said it is poised for growth over the next five years.
