Camstar Systems Inc. is attempting to redefine what a manufacturing execution system is and, in the process, reinvent itself as a company dedicated to enterprise quality execution.
Quality is an important part of manufacturing, but it is often not executed properly. To date, quality measures have been bolted on and many times occur after production happens. According to AMR Research, this results in excessive rework and scrap, high product inventories, low plant utilization, and protracted and unpredictable cycle times.
Now, due to product recalls, Food and Drug Administration mandates, and high customer standards, quality management has become a priority for manufacturers.
Camstar said it has been listening to customer cries for a better way to manage the production process, which needs to be tightly linked with corrective and preventive action (CAPA) capabilities. "The reason why we are launching this is because the marketplace said they've had enough with siloed solutions, already. Their processes are end-to-end and cross functional boundaries ... they need a solution that reflects their reality," said Karim Lokas, Camstar's vice president of marketing and product strategy.
