Aspen Technology Inc. (Cambridge, MA), a leading supplier of process optimization software, will release its eSupply Chain Suite in May. The software package, which helps optimize operations across the supply chain, relies on software from Extricity Software Inc. to help data transfer. Aspen Technology acquired related expertise several years ago when it purchased Chesapeake, a vendor of advanced planning and scheduling (APS) software.  Aspen Technology is also collaborating with Fluent Inc., a leading provider of computational fluid dynamics simulation software, to provide better design and simulation tools for the chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical makers, Aspen Technology's core market.  This initiative will focus on providing tools that process industry engineers can use to create high-tech workflows that improve plant productivity and flexibility.  The company earned $1.6 million during its fiscal second quarter ended December 31, up from $500,000 for the same fiscal 1999 period. Sales were flat during that period.
