Adept Technology Inc., a robotic systems, motion control and machine vision technology manufacturer, recently introduced its AdeptViper 6-axis articulated robot product line. Designed for precision assembly, the speed and payload capacity of these robots make them ideal for material handling, packaging and testing applications and allow them to be deployed into areas where only 4-axis robots have historically been able to tread, according to Rob Bucher, chairman and CEO of Adept. The AdeptViper robots are available in two models, the s650, which has a 653 mm reach and a cycle time of .49 seconds, and the s850, which has an 854 mm reach and a cycle time of .59 seconds. Both are designed for either table or ceiling mounting and have a 5kg payload capacity. Adept recently completed the installation of 60 AdeptViper s650 robots at a major telecom contract manufacturer that's in the first phase of a multi-year program for cellular phone assembly, and it expects to deliver more than 400 over the course of the contract.
