MINNETONKA, Minn. (Nov. 6, 2008) - Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII) today introduced the Digi Transport family of enterprise class, multi-function cellular routers. Certified by Verizon Wireless in the U.S., Digi Transport routers feature advanced routing, state-of-the-art security and integrated primary DSL and backup cellular interfaces. The routers also feature synchronous protocol support for retail and financial devices such as automated teller machines (ATMs) and lottery machines. The Digi Transport family was developed using technology gained through the acquisition of UK-based Sarian Technologies, a leader in high-end cellular routers in Europe.
"There is now a significant market need for ADSL backup given that enterprises are increasingly relying upon broadband for most of their communication," said Arun Nirmal, senior research analyst for Frost & Sullivan. "Enterprises cannot afford to be cut off and need to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and consistent stream of revenue. Sarian''s WR-41 [Digi Transport WR in the U.S. and APAC] represents a reliable continuity plan, allowing enterprises to utilize high-speed mobile networks in the event of a fixed-line problem and most importantly to continue conducting business efficiently."
Verizon Wireless is the first carrier to certify the Digi Transport family in North America. Anthony Lewis, vice president for open development at Verizon Wireless, said, "Digi Transport routers stand ready to fulfill a clear demand for enterprise class cellular connectivity. Coupled with our high-speed wireless network, Digi Transport routers provide an ideal solution for both remote primary and backup enterprise applications. Digi certified its technology through our new open development business. This new business unit encourages the development and certification of innovative products, applications and services. We have a long relationship with Digi and look forward to expanding that relationship in the future."
