Data warehouse software provider Teradata this week said it has struck up a partnership with enterprise data governance tools vendor Kalido that will make it easier for manufacturers to build and manage small data marts.

The partnership calls for Kalido to develop a version of its Information Engine that will be certified to operate with Teradata’s database. Deployments are expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.

While Teradata’s software is typically used to create large, high-performance data warehouses, Kalido’s Information Engine helps users create and manage smaller data marts using subsets of the data structures defined in the larger data warehouse. A manufacturer might use a data mart to analyze the performance of a specific plant or product line, for example.

Teradata officials said the Kalido tools will allow customers to build data marts in weeks rather than months.
