Machine-to-machine connectivity provider Telenor Connexion recently announced the appointment of two new executives who will help drive the company’s expansion into the North American market as they focus on delivering wireless networking asset management systems.
Formed in 2008 and based in Stockholm, Sweden, Telenor Connexion is wholly owned by Telenor Group, a mobile operator with 120 million subscribers in 11 markets across Europe and Asia. While the group does not own networks in the U.S., it is said to have established roaming agreements with local communications carriers enabling its machine-to-machine (M2M) technology to work seamlessly.
Now, following the appointments of George LeBron as head of market development and Marcus Rodrigues as technical sales manager, Telenor Connexion plans to build on the company’s established customer base, including Volvo, Nissan, and Hitachi, to help drive worldwide M2M solutions, the company said.
Telenor Connexion has created a dedicated M2M platform for wireless networks that includes subscriber identity module (SIM) cards and software for managing traffic between devices. Last month, Telenor sold its platform to Ericsson and now leases back the M2M capabilities. The reason, the company said, is that it will relieve Telenor from managing the daily operations of the technology platform and allow Telenor to focus on differentiating its M2M offerings through new value-added services for customers that will be closely tied to connectivity.
