Now that the Android is making its way into the enterprise, Sybase Inc., a provider of device management software, is stepping up its partnership with Samsung to ensure that corporate-owned data remains safe on Android-enabled devices.

Sybase, an SAP company, has upgraded Afaria, its wireless networking device management application, to deliver advanced enterprise security for Android on Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S II devices. To date, Afaria has been used to manage and secure iPhones, iPads, Windows Mobile devices, and laptops, but customers have been eager to make Android devices enterprise-ready, as well, Sybase said.

“We do support Android with basic Afaria, but the Samsung partnership adds deeper control and security for the Android OS,” Milja Gillespie, senior product marketing manager at Sybase, told Managing Automation.

Afaria’s advanced enterprise security will be available on Android version 2.3 or later and will enforce device encryption, remote lock, and data wipe, as well as strong password security. It will provide configuration management and control over various wireless networking ports, such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and will offer over-the-air deployments by automating configuration and application management without user intervention.
