Is there any evidence that manufacturers pursuing sustainability deliver better bottom-line performance than others? According to a recent study by IDC Manufacturing Insights, there is, and they do.

The research company compared revenues, inventory levels, and profit margins of companies appearing on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index with those of manufacturing companies generally. The study was based on IDC Manufacturing Insights’ own Global Performance Index containing financial results for manufacturers and the Dow Jones Index, which assess sustainability and financial performance.

The study finds that manufacturers listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index outperformed other manufacturers in all three dimensions.

IDC Manufacturing Insights’ conclusion: “We believe there's a good reason to see going green as an opportunity in cost savings and revenue growth.”
