Manufacturers that need to accelerate product innovation should start with 3D design, says SpaceClaim. The vendor of 3D direct modeling software has released a new version with enhanced modeling capabilities to save users time and money during the engineering and design stage.
A 3D tool for engineers, SpaceClaim 2011 has enhanced surface modeling and model preparation for CAE and manufacturing, according to the company. SpaceClaim, identified by Managing Automation as a company to watch in 2011, can create realistic 3D concepts for RFP bids, merging customer data, supplier components, and in-house CAD data into one environment. In addition, the software’s 3D direct modeling technology allows for more simulation during the design process by matching products to engineering objectives such as weight, strength, and cost, enabling engineers to explore different ways to optimize the design by directly modifying parts.
The goal, the company says, is to remove waste from the design phase to enable more product innovation and accelerate time-to-market.
“By elevating concept and bid modeling, advancing CAE workflow, and enabling all engineers to communicate in 3D, we’re helping our customers converge on key decisions early in the process,” said SpaceClaim president and CEO Chris Randles in a statement.
