Coinciding with the launch of a new wireless remote management device this month, Sixnet, a maker of machine-to-machine industrial networking solutions, announced that systems integrator Set-Point Control has standardized on the new Sixnet RAM 6000 remote terminal unit for use with its Web-based SCADA application.
The RAM 6000 is a wireless networking remote terminal unit (RTU) that is said to provide secure monitoring and control of industrial devices over cellular networks. Designed for manufacturers with equipment in far-flung areas, the RAM 6000 combines automation control technology, networking, and security capabilities within a single, compact cellular system, the company said.
According to Sixnet, a built-in Modbus gateway and a software development kit (SDK) enable RAM 6000 users to access critical device data—even when using custom-built software applications. The device can also interface with existing RTUs and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to gain real-time access to SCADA data from pumps, valves, sensors, and meters.
Industrial applications for the RAM 6000 include gas distribution, water or chemical tank-farm monitoring, solar and wind-farm remote installations, and pole-top power distribution, the company said. In these environments, monitoring and control is critical for both safety and operational efficiency.
