SAS Acquires Teragram to Advance Text Mining Capabilities

Business intelligence and analytics stalwart SAS has acquired natural language processing (NLP) and advanced linguistic technology provider Teragram. Teragram's technology will enhance SAS' text mining offerings, SAS said, which are used to analyze text and other unstructured data, such as Web pages, documents, e-mail, images, and other information not stored in a structured database. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. In addition, SAS rolled out a new version of its core BI platform. SAS version 9.2 contains new algorithms and procedures for predictive modeling, forecasting, and optimization, the company said. Other enhancements include simpler, role-based interfaces; enhanced collaboration features meant to simplify the reuse of data integration components; and improved deployment, configuration, and administration capabilities, including a new wizard-based interface.
