DeviceVM, a maker of instant-on Internet access for computers, has secured $10 million in funding to accelerate development of its application for mobile devices. SAP Ventures, a division of SAP, led the investment round.
DeviceVM’s Splashtop application allows instant access to the Internet without waiting for the Windows operating system to boot up when a computer is turned on. The Splashtop software is pre-installed on major PC vendors’ notebook computers, including Acer, Dell, and Hewlett-Packard, the company said. Splashtop for the general mobile worker supports instant connectivity to Outlook e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks, as well as the ability to view and edit Microsoft Office documents.
With the latest round of funding, which also won backing from existing DeviceVM venture capital investors Storm Ventures, DFJ Dragon, and New Enterprise Associates, DeviceVM will expand the breadth of mobile devices with which its software will work, giving netbooks and smart phones the same instant-on capability. The company also plans to add IT enterprise management and security policies. To that end, Splashtop will address the needs of the mobile enterprise worker by integrating Citrix and VMware clients to allow secure, instant access to remote virtualized desktops and applications, the company said.
“We are excited to lead the investment in DeviceVM to support its growth and expansion to deliver enterprise-class, instant-on platforms for the mobile enterprise markets,” said Jai Das, a partner at SAP Ventures, in a statement. “Secure remote access to corporate data from multiple devices is paramount to today’s increasingly mobile workforce.”
