Equipment designed from the ground up for Gen 2 debuting at RFID World included a wearable encoder from Adasa (Eugene, OR), and the SL5000r MP2 encoder/printer and SLPA7000r MP2 encoder/printer/ applicator from Printronix Inc. (Irvine, CA). The latter is capable of encoding, printing and applying smart labels at a rate of 60 cases per minute with faster units on the horizon, according to Brad Jarvis, director of product marketing for Printronix.
