Abstract:Manufacturers can protect intellectual property with new encryption system.

Protecting intellectual property is an important part of the manufacturing process, and the latest offering from Opto22 provides a way to secure firmware and control programs.

Opto 22 released the Secure Strategy Distribution System as part of its PAC Project automation software suite, which includes control programming, HMI development, OPC connectivity, and enterprise database integration components. Version 8.2 of the offering adds the ability for OEMs to secure the controllers they embed in their machines, thereby preventing unauthorized users from loading and running code or accessing preloaded control programs.

Using encryption technology, an OEM can securely download and distribute files to field controllers that have digital signatures matching the OEM's private key. This guarantees that the firmware or control program update is authentic and has not been modified.
