This month, Aberdeen Group will publish a research report on the manufacturing operations management market. The market segment, typically known as manufacturing execution systems (MES), will need to be updated with new analytical functions in order for manufacturers to survive dynamic market changes and fierce global competition, the research firm says. Specifically, many MES vendors are expected to augment their offerings with enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI), quality management, and asset management applications. EMI will help shift the focus away from execution management and onto managing operations in a way that promotes an agile organization that can support shifting business needs. Aberdeen further expects MES vendors to shift their marketing message toward an emphasis on manufacturing operations management (MOM), production operations management (POM), and integrated manufacturing execution (IME).
