Stratus Technologies' new Avance software uses embedded virtualization and runs on ordinary x86 servers, enabling the product to provide levels of availability superior to high-availability cluster solutions for Linux and Windows applications, but without the complexity, Stratus says.
Avance is used to create and manage high-availability virtual machines based on the Citrix XenServer virtualization platform. Aimed at small and medium-sized businesses and network edge applications in large, distributed networks lacking dedicated IT support, Avance can be installed in less than 15 minutes after a user enters three commands, Stratus says.
Once installed on two Ethernet-connected x86 servers with operating systems, a user can begin deploying virtual machines with the embedded Citrix XenServer virtualization engine and point-and-click wizards.
