The SME bills its Lean Registry as a "free community connection and collaboration space for lean practitioners." The society traces the registry's genesis to 2005, when it enlisted hundreds of volunteers to help develop its Lean Certification program. During the process, volunteers emphasized the need for a collaborative tool that would allow them access to one another on a grand scale, instead of simply through one-to-one interactions, such as e-mail and phone calls. Out of that need, the registry was born, according to the SME.
"The Lean Registry allows users to post needs/expertise directly to their profile, create virtual groups, and make safe connections more easily," notes the press release announcing the unveiling.
