A new book released in March by Prentice Hall offers readers a shop-floor view into the promise, practices, and challenges of lean manufacturing.
In Lessons from a Lean Consultant: Avoiding Lean Implementation Failures on the Shop Floor, author Chris Ortiz applies his experience as a lean practitioner and owner of lean consultancy Kaizen Assembly to topics such as the key attributes of a kaizen program, methods for overcoming lean inhibitors, worker flexibility and cross-training, and employee buy-in, among others.
In the book, Ortiz reiterates the top-down message of many lean experts:
