ISA Expo Set for Oct. 14-17

The standards-setting organization teams up with the Automation Federation to provide training and other events for professionals and students interested in careers in automation.

In conjunction with ISA Expo 2008 in Houston Oct. 14-17, the Automation Federation will put on Automation Career Week, with events for automation professionals and students. The expo will provide a training and education opportunity for progressive manufacturers.

ISA Expo will include a technical conference, with exchanges on security, safety, process automation, environmental and quality control, wireless and networking, and enterprise integration, as well as technology briefings and a 70,000-sq.-ft. exhibition.

Technical training courses and seminars will be offered for automation professionals. In addition, professionals under age 30 and college students will be able to participate in the third annual YAPFEST, on Oct. 15, where they can network and interact with sponsor companies and the media to learn more about the automation profession.

For the first time at ISA Expo, an event is planned to introduce high school and middle school students to the automation profession. More than 300 students from the Houston area are expected to attend the event, called iAU2M8.08, Oct. 16. John Hanks, vice president of industrial and embedded products at National Instruments, will deliver the keynote address, and students will have a chance to experience interactive displays at exhibits from companies such as Shell, FIRST Robotics, Yokogawa, Emerson, and others.

The Automation Federation is an umbrella organization for associations and societies engaged in manufacturing and process automation activities. The ISA is a standards-setting organization for automation and is the founding sponsor of the Automation Federation.
