Honeywell’s wireless networking technology has been used by industrial plants to monitor the status of fixed assets and equipment, as well as to locate people in the plant. Now, the Honeywell Process Solutions group has launched a wireless application that will help manufacturers monitor rotating assets as well.

According to the company, rotating assets, such as pumps, compressors, fans, motors, and turbines, can fail with little or no advance warning, due to the constant stresses placed on them. The new OneWireless Rotating Equipment Solution, a suite of products and services that is part of the group’s reliability and asset management portfolio, provides a cost-effective way to monitor essential and critical plant assets wirelessly and in real time. It will save customers an average of $20,000 per asset per year through improved uptime and reduced maintenance and repair costs, Honeywell said.

The OneWireless Rotating Equipment Solution includes the new Honeywell XYR6000 Multiplexer wireless vibration monitor, which uses the company’s proprietary fault-model technology to detect and track major failure modes such as bearing failures, machine imbalances, and gearbox and impeller failures. The application also includes the OneWireless network multinodes and the Asset Manager R400 software for online performance and condition monitoring. Asset Manager R400 enables users across all levels of plant operations to collaborate as they determine how to address abnormal equipment conditions, the company said.

“When asset failure is simply not an option, our XYR6000 Multiplexer and Asset Manager R400 can be used as part of a wider OneWireless plant network to make sure that early warning signs are not missed and appropriate action is taken,” said Raymond Rogowski, Honeywell Process Solutions wireless business leader, in a statement.
