Escalating energy bills are often seen as a facility management issue. But GE Intelligent Platforms understands that the problem often originates on the factory floor. To help manufacturers create a more sustainable operations management environment, the automation vendor has introduced a measurement and reporting tool that provides a view into the energy consumption of equipment in the facility.

GE’s Proficy for Sustainability Metrics is said to be a starting point for analyzing energy and water consumption in a specific area or process, or at the machine level within a factory. Layering over GE’s Proficy HMI/SCADA and historian applications, which collect data from equipment sensors, Proficy for Sustainable Metrics is also easily integrated with third-party supervisory and monitoring systems, databases, and meters.

Through the use of existing data, Proficy for Sustainability Metrics applies a cost analysis and carbon emissions gauge in a visual dashboard that is accessible to executives and operators alike.

“Step one is the visualization for energy, water, and gas [consumption metrics],” said Kyle Reissner, product marketing manager at GE Intelligent Platforms. “But we also took it a step further and crafted a blueprint application because a lot of companies don’t know what [information] to collect.”
