An aerospace and defense giant is getting a little leaner.
With a new pulse line assembly process at its El Segundo, CA, manufacturing plant, Boeing expects to cut out superfluous movements and reduce the amount of time needed to build the satellites made at the facility, according to the company.
Boeing will use new work cells, tooling, and work processes to reduce assembly time and increase the amount of work in process that the facility can handle. "With this new process, we are reducing the travel distance of a space vehicle from 12,000 feet to 10,000 feet," through the production process, said John Duddy, director of GPS programs for Boeing, in a statement.
