Ask the Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) Expert: Scheduling Assistance

Asked on May 11 2005 8:52:27:000AM | Q | We are currently a network intergrator and have been asked to get involved with RFID from one of our software vendors. Where we be a good place to start and learn about RFID? Thanks. Keith Crowder, Columbus, IN |
| A | Keith: As indicated in our inaugural column, crafting the business case and value proposition for launching any new technology initiative is fundamental to downstream success. A key component of the process is clear definition of the application for which the technology is intended, technical performance requirements and expected results; e.g., why and for what application(s) is your software asking you to investigate RFID? RFID may or may not be the best solution for a given application. If it turns out that it is a good fit, you will have the comfort of knowing that you?ve been diligent in assessing the options and selecting the right solution for the requirement. Now, to resources: The following list of organizations, publications (in addition to Managing Automation) and trade shows, though not exhaustive, is a good place to start.
