| A | There are many factors that can be (and are) used to justify PLM implementations. These include cost savings, time to market reductions, productivity improvements, quality improvements, ability to delivery more products with the same or less resources, process time improvements, and many others. Some factors, e.g., process time reductions, are straight forward to measure while other, e.g., quality improvements, can be measures (less defects, etc.) but the overall impact on the business may be hard to quantify. Many vendors and consulting companies (including CIMdata) have defined ROI methodologies that help companies identify and quantify potential and actual benefits -- both hard and soft benefits. A justification should be based on sound metrics pertinent to your business. All aspects should be considered. Using a methodology and toolkit based on the methodology will help ensure that you accurately define the metrics that address the benefits most important to your company and that you properly measure the impact of PLM implementation on those metrics, and thus the benefit to the business. |
