Biometric / RFID Cards

Asked on Apr 6 2006 11:57:57:000AM

Q

Looking to find a RFID tag company that can build a handheld card with biometric and RFID capability. RFID antenna will need to be carbon based ink that can be printed in any design. Can you recommend any manufacturers that are willing to work with a start up?

Sherman LaCost, Tampa, Florida
ASherman: Your concept is intriguing. I do not know of any companies that have married the two technologies in a single card, although a number have been working on incorporating temperature, humidity, shock and vibration sensing into an RFID tag.

You may want to contact Paralec Inc. (Rocky Hill, NJ), Precisia (Ann Arbor, MI), Graphic Solutions International (Chicago area) or any of the other printing companies you'll find under "Printed RFID Antenna" on the web. You may also want to query on "Chipless RFID" to take a look at the R & D underway on producing low cost RFID tags.

Additionally, the AIDC trade association, AIM, is a great source of information on biometrics as well as RFID.

Finally, you may want to consider RFID Journal Live in Las Vegas the first week of May. Virtually all of the major and many smaller suppliers will be exhibiting; and, the event will provide you with an opportunity to network and explore your options in more detail.
