What's The Frequency ... John?

Asked on Dec 19 2005 9:55:22:000AM

Q

Hi sir, I am looking for 2.4GHz transceivers for RFID applications. Is there any transceiver for this type of application? Or, any application notes which are related to this purpose? I want to use the transceiver as the reader of my passive RFID tag. Also, if you have such transceivers, I would also like to know the odering information please

AFor which applications are you looking to deploy 2.45 GHz devices? Vehicle identification? Toll collection? Package identification? Other?

I am curious as to why 2.45 GHz over 860 to 930 MHz, given the growing global endorsement of the latter. As you probably know, the primary advantage of the 2.45 GHz bandwidth is higher data transfer speed than what is available with lower frequency devices.

A disadvantage is that transmissions in this bandwidth are more susceptible to performance degradation in heavy metal or high moisture content applications. Also, there are fewer suppliers of 2.45 GHz products compared to the 860 to 930 MHz alternative.

A good place to start your search is Managing Automation's RFID Directory.

You may also want to take a look at the RFID entries in the Buyers Guide at AIMGlobal, the international trade association for suppliers of the complete range of automatic identification and data capture products.
