Supply Chain Data Basics

Q

What sort of data is required to formulate any organization’s supply chain model?

MAZHAR VAJLANI(3), Lahore
AAt Manufacturing Insights, we use a view we call The Modern Supply Chain. Horizontally, we talk about relationships with suppliers, customers, and then of course the actual manufacturer. In order to define a particular supply chain model, you need to have the right kinds of supply data -- both about the network and the operation of network members -- and the right kinds of customer data -- again, both about the network and the behavior of customers and consumers. Depending then upon the key performance metrics (assets, cost, working capital, forecast accuracy, service levels, etc.), you can define the supply chain model. It may be an in-sourced model, or it may be outsourced. Investment in supplier relationship capabilities may be prioritized, or customer-facing capabilities -- again depending upon the industry and the business strategy.
