Sizing Outsourced Project Management

Asked on Apr 18 2006 2:57:47:000PM

Q

Where can I find annual market size information for outsourced Product Management / PLM services (USA and/or world)? I'm trying to get a handle on how much money is spent annually on a) coming up w/new product ideas, and b) validating those ideas w/VoC studies, focus groups, surveys, etc. If you could help point me in the right direction I'd be most appreciative. Best regards,

Ben Campbell, Andover, MA
AThere is not a lot of detailed information on outsourced PLM at this time. Some companies such as IBM and Accenture may have some studies.

There are some resources for part two of your question. Don Reinertson, President, Reinertsen & Associates and a author Of "Developing Products in Half the Time" and "Managing the Design Factory", who tracks and reports on some of these factors. Further Tom Kelley of IDEO has written a book called "The Ten Faces of Innovation" that also looks at these topics. IDEO also does research in this area.

Check with both of the above. They can probably provide further sources.
