Seeking Design Standard Verification

Asked on Jan 12 2006 5:32:02:000PM

Q

A recent article in Managing Automation about PTC Team Center and the contributions of engineers from eight countries raised some interesting questions. The first thing that comes to mind is what was used to instill a Design Standard for compatibility. I worked with Boeing several years ago and the company had an automated system that allowed you to login and FTP your files to a designated site, which would quickly run a set of standards against your posted files to assure you were in compliance with the company standards. If your file did not meet the standards as defined, it would quickly reject the file and notifiy you to comply. Is there any such software avaiable similar to Model Check by PTC but a more complete item check list? We are currently looking into Fishbowl Solutions for our CAD standards verifier.

There are several third-party companies that provide CAD and model validation tools. In addition to PTC's Model Check and Fishbowl, they include:

  • ITI CAD/IQ
  • Prescient DesignQA
  • UGS's Quick Check and Check-Mate check NX models.
These tools can be used to check the validity of a CAD model against a defined set of characteristics. The effectiveness of the checking tool is dependent upon the type and number of chrematistics, rules and/or standards checked and validated.
