A Role For Systems Integrators?

Asked on Nov 15 2005 2:57:00:000PM

Q

Hi Kenneth, I would like to know how much potential do IT Services companies like Infosys, Satyam, HCL, Wipro etc have in the PLM space. Do companies like UGS, Dassault Systems etc. look forward to or partner with the implementation/services companies (offshoring companies) in India? Do Indian software services companies also have something to gain from the high growth of PLM worldwide? If so, will it be implementation or support/maintenance; consulting or sales partnerships?

Sameer Gupta, India
AThe growth of the PLM market has provided substantial opportunities for consultancies and systems integrators.

Over the past several years SIs from all regions of the world have developed and are expanding PLM programs that complement and leverage the applications and technology provided by PLM solution suppliers such as MatrixOne, UGS, Dassault, etc.

The SIs provide services ranging including strategic consulting (e.g., defining a PLM strategy), process re-engineering, installation, implementation, tailoring and customization, on-going support as well as some re-sale of applications.

All PLM solution suppliers (Dassault, Agile, SAP, UGS, MatrixOne) have relationships with one or more of these SIs and they are a significant part of their overall programs. They use these partners in all regions of the world.

In India, Satyam, Scandant and TCS have major PLM programs (both locally and globally). These companies, and other SIs, see PLM as a growth opportunity for their businesses. Some provide only implementation and support, while others provide a broad program that also includes strategic and management consulting.
