Methodology
Based on evaluations of our panel of expert judges, Managing Automation will select the following winners for the 2010 Progressive Manufacturing Awards Program:
- The Progressive Manufacturing 100 honors both a large and a small/medium-sized company. This will allow us to recognize two companies for their distinct achievements in overall Progressive Manufacturing.
- Editors’ Choice Award - This award represents companies that have caught the attention of our editors for special recognition.
- Best of Mastery awards will be given to projects showing exemplary achievement in each specific sub-category for the eight core masteries (i.e. a project will be awarded Best of Mastery for sub-category Enterprise Intelligence within the Data & Integration Mastery).
- High Achiever awards will be given to those projects that demonstrate maximum mastery of one of the eight core disciplines (i.e. a High Achiever award will be given to one project in all of the Data & Integration mastery).
- Progressive Manufacturers must incorporate multiple levels of innovation into their business to be ranked among the PM100. After reviewing all nominations our judges select those companies who have excelled across multiple disciplines to select the Progressive Manufacturer of the Year. This exciting award will allow us to recognize two companies for their distinct achievements in overall Progressive Manufacturing.
Top performers will be selected from a pool of candidate nominations. Managing Automation editors will perform an initial screening of candidates, determining which category each candidate company will be considered for and which candidates will be considered for the overall award. These finalists will then be evaluated by the program's full panel of judges.
Category Competition
Judges will evaluate and score candidates selected for a particular discipline category using the following criteria:
- Scope of Mastery: Has the candidate company demonstrated discipline mastery broadly, across several business functions, for example? Has mastery of the discipline resulted in a significant transformation in the way the company does business?
- Business Impact: What bottom line business benefit has resulted from mastery of this discipline?
- Use of Technology: To what extent was the use of technology key to enabling mastery of the discipline? Was the appropriate technology used? Was it deployed in a way that delivered maximum value to the business?
For each of these criteria, panelists will award candidate companies points on a scale from one to five. A score of “one” for the Business Impact criteria, for example, would indicate little or no bottom line benefits. A score of “five” would indicate highly significant business impact.
Top-performers in each category will be those companies receiving the highest total score.
Overall Competition
Judges will evaluate and score candidates for the overall award based on their demonstrated mastery of all eight disciplines. Judges will consider:
- The scope, business impact and use of technology related to each discipline.
- Based on those criteria, panelists will award each candidate a single score, from one to five, for each discipline.
The Progressive Manufacturer of the Year will be the company receiving the highest total score across multiple masteries. Ties will be resolved by Managing Automation editors.
